Exhibition: These times should be treated with caution

Jo Clement and Alexia Mellor  These times should be treated with caution, 2016 Installation and Poetic Coda

A collaborative exploration of Holy Island between poet (Clement) and artist (Mellor), this work considers Basil Bunting’s long poem ‘Briggflatts’ (1966) particularly the notion of being lost in Lindisfarne plaited lines.  The installation includes 45 clocks, set simultaneously and in accordance with timetables provided by Leith to indicate the safe and unsafe crossing times in which the tidal island can be accessed.

The work is accompanied by a publication: the ‘Walk Round Guide: A Pathfinding Coda to the Holy Isle’. This guidebook and poetry pamphlet includes five distinct voices and points of time, each mapped out on the island.

Together they invite consideration of place, time and identity.

Below are some photos from last month's preview, which was exhibited throughout the Poetry Festival.
